Although we don't have much free time, we DO enjoy each day seeing the unfolding of SPRING in Utah!
One of the first highlights of Spring was Bonnie's (Sister Dolberg's) Birthday on March 23rd.
| Sister Dolberg (AKA Bonnie) received this beautiful
bouquet of flowers on her March 23rd birthday from our special friends Beth & Dave Street. She felt
quite honored and blessed! |
Every day we just marvel at the
beautiful flowers are
all around Temple Square - first the daffodils,
later the tulips, and then the many other varieties. We have a very
difficult time choosing to post just a FEW pictures.
| The varieties & colors are amazing. |
| The double daffodils are fascinating. |
This flower bed is beside the east entrance to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building where our Mission Office is located. |
| Here we are with more flower beds behind us. |
This is in front of the Church Office Building with the Temple in the background. |

| This bed of flowers is beside the Tabernacle. |
| The flowers are just glorious. You agree? |
| Bonnie's favorites are those in shades of pink. |
| Even in the early mornings when the Temple lights are still visible, the flowers still compete with the Temple for beauty. |
| Of course in full day light, the Temple wins the contest. |
| The flowering trees on Temple Square are also spectacular. |
Even the flowers in front of the Family History Library where we enter to work every day are beautiful. |
In the last week of March we walked five blocks from our apartment up to the Utah State Capital building. The flowers and views up there were spectacular - especially the cherry trees. We enjoyed seeing some of the surrounding historical sites too.
The Utah State Capital building is surrounded by rows and rows of cherry trees. |
From the steps of the Capital Building the view over toward our part of the valley shows the mountains above our house in Herriman. |
| We stopped for a quick photo before we went inside. |
| On the stairs is this crest of the State of Utah. |
| Both Chambers of the Legislature are in the building. |
| This is the House of Representatives Chamber. |
| In addition to the Senate Chambers, the State Supreme Court is also in the Capital Building. |
| The Mormon
Battalion Monument is located on the grounds of the capitol, honoring the Mormon Battalion which marched from
Iowa to Southern California in 1846-47. |
| The Mormon Battalion served the U.S. Army in the war against Mexico. Many of the members of the Battalion later stayed in California to found such places as San Diego and to discover Gold in the Sacramento area. |
| Across the street from the State Capital building were other historic buildings and a marvelous view. |
| The Council
Hall was first the Utah Territorial Government Building, and was moved from downtown SLC to the capital
grounds where it now serves as a Tourist Information Office. |
| The Devereaux
Mansion is another lovely old
building in SLC. |
“The Avenues” are
streets that go up the hill towards the capitol building, and there are some beautiful old homes there. This was one of our favorites.
| Another historic building is the Train Station which today is a visitor center and behind it is a major shopping center. |
| Part of the shopping plaza are several BIG new buildings including the expansive LDS Business College. |
| Next door to the Business College is the BYU SLC Center which itself is very impressive. |
During the first week of April, we enjoyed the semi-annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which, of course, took place right here where we live.
| The flowers were ready to welcome the 30,000 people who came to Conference. |
On General Conference weekend (Easter weekend this year) the flowers on the grounds of Temple Square were spectacular,
ready for the thousands of people who come each April for the semi-annual general meetings of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The best part of Conference for us this year was the visit from California of our son Paul with his beautiful family. It was a SUPER treat for us to have family visit us!
| Our son Paul and his wife Amee and their 6
children drove from California to Utah for the weekend. |
| While Paul and Amee and their 5 older children
attended the Saturday morning session of General Conference, we (grandma and
grandpa) were privileged to babysit
17-month old Ruby. We had a
grand time playing with her while setting up a picnic for when the rest of the family returned to join us. |
| Here we are having our picnic in the gazebo in the central courtyard of our apartment complex. |
| Afterwards we had a hard time fitting everyone into the living room of our tiny apartment
while we did some visiting. |
| Paul & their youngest, Ruby, make a happy pair. |
| Spencer, their oldest, & Amee make a handsome couple too. |
On another one of our free days we went again to the SLC City Library. The blooming trees there were also marvelous.
| We periodically visit the Salt Lake City Library for books, since we have no TV. The
pink Judas Trees are
spectacular right now all around the new, modern library. |
| The library's adjoining park has interesting statues of children |
Then on tax day, April 15, 2015, winter returned - but only just for one day. It was quite a surprise to wake up and see 4" of snow blanketing everything!
| On April 15 we were back to WINTER again, receiving about 6 inches of snow. |
| Fortunately it melted quickly so the spring flowers weren’t damaged too much. |
A new chapter of our Mission Service when Sister Dolberg was called as the Director of the 75-member Elija Choir composed of missionaries currently serving in the Family & Church History Headquarters Mission. The choir sings at the week Mission Devotionals, monthly Mission Conferences, and on special occasions. This mission-wide leadership calling now requires several hours a week of administrative office work, but Sister Dolberg was given the opportunity to name her own Executive Secretary. Guess whom she picked. The lucky winner was... Elder Dolberg! Now he gets to help her as she literally leads the Mission in singing!
| This is her new office in the mission headquarters suite. |
Thanks for checking our Blog. Please come back in about 3 more weeks, OK?
